Alex Schlagman of Save The High Street and Andrew Busby of Retail Reflections think there's room for optimism and local government has a key role to play.

The death of the high street has been announced with depressing regularity - at least once a year - for most of the last decade. Goverment has made high profile interventions including a number of enquiries and studies ending with recommendations all without much sign of success. Now we have a Minister for High Streets and one of the previous reviews - The Grimsey Review - is to be dusted-off updated and done over. Is there room for optimism or are we simply attending the funeral of a dear friend? Alex Schlagman of Save The High Street and Andrew Busby of Retail Reflections think there is room for optimism and they should know.
